1 Corinthians 6:9-11
Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.
I am saddened that this passage is no longer believed by many who profess to follow the LORD Jesus! The statements are perfectly clear!
1. We are to "Know" something. The word for "know" used here in the Greek is "oida" in a perfect tense, "oida" is not the gradual knowledge, indicated in another Greek word "ginosko". Everyone knows ("oida") when the sun is up. But everyone does not know ("ginosko") the distance of the earth to the sun. When someone declares that the sun is up, it is not debatable you can see it. But someone may not agree with you that the exact distance to the sun is 92,960,000 miles. Yet once that person gets more knowledge (ginosko) they may choose to agree with your calculations. Every believer is to be settled in fully knowing that the unrighteous person will not have any part or participation in the Kingdom of GOD! This was not a questionable area that was open for debate.
2. "Do not be deceived". This is a present Imperative with a negation which indicates that the person who read these words WERE DECEIVED and it was to stop! STOP BEING DECEIVED! Correct your thinking here and NOW! Corinth was an immoral place were sexual sins were common and accepted. The new followers of Jesus stopped all their immoral living. They stopped all fornicating! They did not have sexual encounters with anyone as a single person. If and when they married they maintained an exclusive sexual relationship to their spouse. (No Adultery)
The power of sexual sins are clearly described in GOD's word. The "Two Wives" of Lamech (Genesis 4:23); Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19); The Commands given in Leviticus Chapters 18 & 20 forbidding God's children from following what they saw in Egypt; The list continues with Samson and David. But there was new power given in the words of Jesus when He spoke to the woman caught in the act of adultery; "Go and sin no more!" (John 8:11)
The power to break these sins has been given to the believers in Christ; for 1 Corinthians states it!
"Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God."
Dear believers pray for one another that the satanic hold of this area of sin will be broken in the lives of GOD's people. Remember that the fornicators and adulteries were listed BEFORE the homosexuals. I thank GOD that all who come to Jesus can be washed clean from their sins, they can be sanctified and separated for GOD to use, and they can stand before GOD justified in the name of the LORD Jesus and in the Holy Spirit!
